THE PLACE WHERE ALL MYSTICS MEET | The Free Radical Podcast # EP 81 — James Finley 11/04/26
As part of the latest episode of the Free Radical Podcast, we welcome acclaimed author, psychologist, teacher, and contemplative elder James Finley for a tender exploration of spiritual awakening, healing, and the mystery of the human soul.
A former student of Thomas Merton, faculty member at Center for Action and Contemplation, host of the podcast Turning to the Mystics, and author of The Healing Path and Merton’s Palace of Nowhere, James Finley joins us for a profound conversation on divine love, the courage of inner transformation, and the hidden wisdom found within suffering. Together, we explore themes of fear and shame, unconditional acceptance, fragility, purpose, and the paradox of the wound becoming the womb of awakening.
Drawing from Christian mysticism, contemplative psychology, and sacred traditions across cultures, this episode traces the common thread running through humanity’s deepest spiritual teachings — one truth expressing itself through many symbols, stories, and paths.
This is not simply a conversation. It is an invitation to sit at the table, reflect deeply, and remember what is most essential.
